Wrestling? I just don't get it...

Bobby's sister insisted that we watch wrestling and uhm...what can I say? It's a group of bad actors dancing around in tights...

I feel like the average IQ of our apartment dropped every few minutes it was on...

Seriously...how has this show (which airs three times a week!!) survived this long? It's shocking to me that it gets the ratings that it does...

I...I...I just...I don't know....

Oh Republicans - you crack me up

This photo actually made it on to a Pro-McCain web article!!

Walking Directions Now Available On Google Maps

This new feature on Google Maps is so cool!

Walking Directions Now Available On Google Maps
by Kimberley D. Mok, Montreal, Canada on 07.23.08
Got directions but want to walk the distance instead of driving? Well, we’re glad to see that Google Maps has now added a new walking option for directions, thanks to popular demand. Similar to getting driving directions, after entering your origin and destination, click “Walking” at the top left panel. You can see an example of this in action here. You can also drag the purple line around if you want to go by another specific route. Done, and done. (But maybe they will add a bicycling option soon.)

Iraq banned from Summer Olympics

Earlier this year I was debating with folks about if we should support a ban on the Olympics in Beijing. Ultimately the arguments that I couldn't overcome was the desire to keep the IOC as politics free as possible...

However...I think the whole notion of keeping the IOC a non-political entity just went right out the window (yet again - IMHO)....

http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/meast/07/24/iraq.olympics/index.html?eref=rss_world

Essentially because the Iraqi government is trying to clean out their political system – which involved turning over their Olympic Committee – the IOC has decided they cannot participate in this year’s Olympics...

Their responses make it seem like more of a procedural thing...but from what I’ve seen online there are plenty of political undertones...

Girl runs from President Bush

I think she did what so many of us would like to do with his presidency...run away from it as fast and far as possible...

Thanks to Carrie for sending this along! =-)

Republican donation letter

The folks at The Bilerico Project have posted a GOP fundraising letter - it's fairly amusing (although somewhat scary at the same time)...

Congressmen's flight to DC makes emergency landing miss vote on Aviation Safety Enhancement Act

How ironic is this?

Flight with 7 congressmen makes emergency landing

By CHEVEL JOHNSON – 4 hours ago

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A Continental Airlines flight carrying former presidential candidate Ron Paul and six other members of Congress to Washington, D.C., made an emergency landing in New Orleans on Tuesday after a loss in cabin pressure.

The seven congressmen, all from Texas, were trying to get back in time for a Tuesday night vote on an aviation safety bill when the flight landed without incident, a spokesman for one of the representatives said. No injuries were reported among the 128 crew and passengers.

FAA spokeswoman Lynn Tierney said Flight 458 from Houston initiated a rapid descent to bring the plane to an altitude below where adding oxygen was necessary and was given priority to land at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport.

Trevor Kincaid, a spokesman for passenger and Rep. Nick Lampson, said his boss told him "there was absolutely no panic on the plane." Lampson told Kincaid the plane's oxygen masks dropped down.

"Continental Airline's personnel and staff were exceptional; executing what seemed to me a textbook performance in emergency procedure. I was very impressed," Lampson said in a release.

Also on the flight were Reps. Paul, Ted Poe, John Carter, Solomon P. Ortiz, Ciro Rodriguez, and Henry Cuellar, Kincaid said. The group was trying to make a vote on the Aviation Safety Enhancement Act.

DeeAnn Thigpen, a spokeswoman for Poe, said the flight is frequently used by members of the Texas delegation who have returned home for the weekend. The 1:05 p.m. flight is the latest one that allows them to get back to Washington in time for 6:30 p.m. votes, she said.

Paul and his wife were aboard the flight and left New Orleans by 5:30 p.m., said Jesse Benton, a spokesman for Paul's non-profit Campaign For Liberty.

"There's no cause for alarm," Benton said.

Airline spokeswoman Julie King said the airline was working to get passengers on other flights.

The emergency landing was the third time in two days a plane was diverted over cabin pressure issues. A US Airways flight and a Northwest Airlines flight were diverted to airports in Kentucky and Wisconsin on Monday over cabin pressure issues.
